BLACK SHEEP

SHE WAS THE BLACK SHEEP

THEY ALL AGREED

SO MANY MISTAKES,

IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE

THEY JUDGED AND WHISPERED THINKING SHE COULDN’T HEAR

THEY MADE HER STRONGER OVER THE YEARS

THE UNWRITTEN RULES WE ALL HAVE LEARNED

YOU DON’T TALK ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE SWEEP THEM UNDER THE MAT AND ARE PUT TO BED

HURT, NEGLECTED, ABUSED AND WISHED SHE WAS NEVER BORN

SHE PUT ON A SHELL THAT COULDN’T BE TORN

HARDENED BY THINGS DONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

TO HORRIBLE TO SAY, BUT THEY SAID IT WAS HER FAULT

WHY THINGS HAPPENED SHE COULDN’T UNDERSTAND

SHE WOULD RUN AWAY AND CLOSES HER HEART

STRANGERS LEAD HER TO DARKENED DOORS ONCE AGAIN, SCARED AND IGNORED STEPPED ON,

TAKING WHAT WAS SHE COULD FIND FOR THE MOMENTS OF HAPPINESS LEFT HER BLIND CALLOUSED AND MANIPULATIVE

SHE FOUND IT WAS TRUE THE HORRIBLE PERSON THEY SAW … IT WAS TRUE SHE HAD BECOME A HORRIBLE SITE

NOW SHE COULD NOT STAND LIVING IN HER SHELL

ONE AFTER ANOTHER RELATIONSHIP FAILED

DRINKING AND LYING BECAME SECOND NATURE LOOKING FOR BITS OF HAPPINESS IN WHATEVER SHE FOUND

THIS PERSON SHE BECAME, SHE HATED AND DROWNED IN SMOOTH, INTOXICATING NIGHTS AND CHOICES SHE’D DREAD AWAKE IN THE MORNING,

AFRAID AND BROKEN LIFE GOES ON AND IT SEEMS THINGS NEVER WOULD CHANGE

BUT IN BROKENNESS AND FORGIVENESS SHE FOUND SALVATION THROUGH WORDS, DREAMS AND WORRY, THE THORN IN HER SIDE

SHE WALKS WITH A MEMORY OF WHAT SHE ONCE WAS

STEPPED ON, PUSHED ASIDE

UNMASKED SHE IS ALIVE STRONGER AND READY TO ACCEPT HERSELF

GROWING IN LOVE AND OUT OF THE SHELL

REJOICING AND LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME
